Looter shooter games are typically fast-paced and driven by loot-progression whereas LitRPG focuses on character development and leveling up. Something that includes both of those genres is the beloved Borderlands series ─ where they do a great job at giving a compelling story mixed in with humor and various loot with different powers and effects. Though the 2024 Borderlands movie fell short because they attempted to condense multiple games into one film and limited themselves with a PG-13 rating.

Space Knight has a captivatingly detailed universe. MSE created a world with unique alien races, ancient civilizations, and complex political landscapes. This series focuses on interstellar politics, alien invasions, and internal moral dilemmas. All these factors contribute to its depth and adds a layer of intricacy.

Everybody loves good character development. The protagonist, Nick Lyons, is a relatable character whose journey is full of excitement and growth. His struggles, dilemmas, and advancement as a Space Knight makes it easy to resonate with the story. He starts off as an inexperienced character, often being overwhelmed by his responsibilities as a Space Knight. On one occurrence, the battle with the Grendels and Draconite Grendels tested his strategic thinking, leadership skills, and most importantly his combat abilities.

We also have interesting people like Olav who want nothing more but to feed you to his hatchets but eventually you get to know bits and pieces about him that soften his character.

Advanced Gear System

The series introduces runes and enchantments that can be applied to equipment and weapons, permitting characters to customize their gear and fighting styles. Whenever a character gets a new weapon, it’s always exciting to know how they’ll use it and how it can change the course of battle.

An example of a cool equipment from Space Knight is the Necroscythe of Resurrection:

Weapon effect: Sharpness increases by 5% for each enemy killed

Runes inscribed: Necro Summoner (goblin)

Rune effects: When the weapon touches any corpse, a number of bone goblins are summoned from that corpse. Each bone goblin degenerates at a speed of 10 minutes plus 100% degeneration for each additional bone goblin. Only 10 bone goblins may be summoned per hour.

What makes this weapon stand out is the fact that it can summon up to 10 bone goblins to help in battle. With 10 more allies to help out in battle, it can definitely turn the tides of battle.
